Stallion Wrestling Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What is considered the youth wrestling season for the Stallions?
A. November 7th 2023 to March 1st 2024

Q. What are the practice times and location?
A. T-W-Th 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM in the Mundelein High School wrestling room.

Q. What ages will be able practice and train?
A. K-8 grades and 5 to 15 years of age. This is a kids club and not meant for high school students.

Q. When does competition start and where is it?
A. Completion starts the 1st Sunday of December at Stevenson High School. Most tournaments are local in the Chicagoland area and we will be wrestling in the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, IKWF. Most Sundays during the season will have a tournament scheduled for your kids to compete in.  Completion ends in early March.

Q. Do my kids need to cut weight or do they need to make a weight class?
A. No. Most local tournament do not require the kids to make a weight class and they never need to cut weight. Kids will weigh-in and then get blocked off with other kids that are around their same weight, age and skill level. The IKWF state tournament for 11-year-olds and older will require a weight class to wrestle in.

Q. When are weekly wrestling tournaments and what are their hours?
A. Most tournaments are on Sundays between 8 am and 5 pm. The tournaments usually wrestle in 2 sessions based on age groups. You only need to attend the session that your kid is in. Each session is about 4 hours and your kid will get about 3 matches in during that time.

Q. Is my kid required to compete or can he just practice?
A. Your kid can just practice and is not required to compete. You can choose to compete in any, all or none of the 10+ weekends the team will be competing in?

Q. Is this sport just for boys?
A. No. Girls can wrestle and compete with boys or just with girls in girl only tournaments.

Q. Who is the head Coach and what is his experience?
A. Shane Crown is our head coach and he has over 10 years of coaching experience with youth kids.

Q. Are the wrestling coaches trained and vetted?
A. Yes, each wrestling coach that is approved to be in the wrestling room will have a back ground check done and will have gone through training seminars with USA Wrestling. This training is required through the IKWF, USA Wrestling and the Stallions Wrestling Academy.

Q. What other costs are there other than the Stallions training fees?
A. Each club member, child, will need to purchase a USA Wrestling Athletic Membership which costs $55.00 a season to practice and compete

If competing, each tournament you choose your kid to compete in will cost about $30.00 each.

Q. Can I wrestle or train for just a portion of the full season?
A. Yes. We have a package for the 1st part of the season that you can purchase from November 7th to January 15th and a package from January 15th to March 1st.

Q. Can I help coach the kids?
A. Yes, you can volunteer coach to help out in practices and corner our wrestlers in tournaments. The stallions will pay for your coaching certification and membership with USA Wrestling. This is about $95.00 of fees.

Q. Do I need to know wrestling to volunteer coach wrestling?
A. No. We have a very experienced head coach who knows wrestling and who will be demonstrating the moves in practice. You can learn the moves from our head coach and just make sure the kids are doing the technique correctly in practice. Also, if you can just help us keep the kids contained and engaged in the practices that will help us out too.

Q. Can I buy wrestling gear from the Stallions?
A. Yes. The Stallions will have a gear order go out at the beginning of the season and a gear order at about mid-season. This will not include head gear or wrestling shoes.

Q. My kid wrestles with their middle school in the IESA, so will there be conflicts with practice and competing?
A.  There should be very little to no conflict at all. Middle school practices are after school and not at the same time as the Stallions Wrestling Academy practices. Middle schools typically compete in dual meets during the week and compete on Saturdays. The Stallions will typically compete on Sundays.

Q. Do kids regularly compete in both the IKWF, club and the IESA, school?
A. Yes. The kids that train and complete at the club level, IKWF, then also compete with their school, IESA, typically have a great advantage. This advantage is additional and much better training then what the middle schools can provide.

Q. Is the Mundelein High School Wrestling program involved in the Stallions Wresting Program?
A. The Mundelein head wrestling coach, Craig Stocker, has approved coaching help from his staff and / or wrestlers from the High School Wrestling team to help coach during our practices.
